French Bulldogs have short noses, making them more susceptible to heat stroke or overheating. If a pet's body temperature rises above 105°F, it can pose a life-threatening risk.

A life-threatening heatstroke can happen when a pet cannot regulate its body temperature due to exposure to heat or hot weather. The main cause of hyperthermia is prolonged exposure to high temperatures, either through exercise or walking. Panting is the primary method pets use to cool themselves. Heatstroke occurs when a pet's ability to control its body temperature is diminished or lost.

Symptoms of heat stroke range from mild to severe. Mild symptoms include heavy panting, red gums, and thick saliva. Severe symptoms can include vomiting, diarrhea, seizures, and a comatose condition.

Pets showing mild signs of heat exhaustion can be cooled with a cool bath, an air-conditioned space, an electric fan, and access to drinking water. Pets exhibiting more severe symptoms of weakness should be taken to the emergency room immediately.

*Before going outside on warmer days, make sure to check your local weather.

*Always make sure your pet has access to shade and water.

*Stay away from hot asphalt.

*Restrict outdoor activities and opt for indoor exercise or wait for cooler days.

*Avoid leaving your furbaby in the car during hot weather.
